R Grace Comyns was born in a small town in central Vermont, the ninth of thirteen
children -- four girls and nine boys. Although she has written short stories, poetry,
and songs most of her life, her novel
When Darla Hit  is the first work she has
published. About her book she states, "I attempt to show what I believe are life's most
important lessons: To live honestly, with compassion, courage, and  gratitude. Let go
of judgements, follow your instincts, and take nothing for granted."

After various entrepreneurial ventures in four other states, Comyns finally moved
home to her beloved green mountain state for good in 2002. Her home, a former
hunting camp that her "second Mom" Doris named
Camp Aerie, is located on the side
of one of those mountains. Friends call the place a retreat, and her guest room is
seldom vacant. She spends much of her time reading, writing, entertaining family and
friends; or driving over back roads in search of antiques, rare books, breathtaking
views, healthy food, fine wine, and stimulating people.
